Griffin Employees Restore 1972 Volkswagen Bus for Road Trip
"We're excited to hit the road to CES and meet Griffin fans across the country," said Dave Delaney, Social Media Coordinator at Griffin Technology. "The bus is a great way to put a personal face on our real-time web community and make some new friends along the way. It's going to be fantastic!"
CES Bound hits the road December 30th, as five Griffin faithfuls cram into a VW mini-bus for the drive 2,476 miles across the country. The plan, bus allowing, is to stop in as many cities as possible between Nashville and Las Vegas to meet with Griffin fans. Destinations include Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Phoenix and the Grand Canyon, with, no doubt, unscheduled stops at countless locations in between. The itinerary ends in Las Vegas, where the bus will come to rest in the Griffin booth on the CES show floor. The Griffin team will document the journey through a dedicated website, www.cesbound.com, as well as Twitter, Flickr and YouTube.
The centerpiece of the trip is a 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia mini-bus, rescued from a field in north-central Tennessee. Griffin employees are working to de-rust and completely restore the bus from the tires up, doing all of the work at the Griffin warehouse in Nashville, Tennessee. Chief mechanic Mark McGlon, who also happens to manage Visual Branding at Griffin, is leading the restoration process and helping drive the bus to CES. Joinng him are four other Griffin employees: Bradley (Photography); Jay (Videography); Jackie (Public Relations); and Dave (Social Media). All five will post their thoughts, interviews, photos and videos from the road, and will be present in person at CES Bound meetups.
In addition to the Griffin team, CES Bound is supported by three great sponsors: Brightkite is powering the bus and providing location services throughout the trip; fabric manufacturer Sunbrella is providing upholstery for the mini-bus; and Threadless is providing awesome swag for meet-up attendees.
CES Bound is coming to a city near you, between December 30th and January 4th. Stop by and say hello.
